Finding the right makeup brushes is important
Because let's be real... Using your hands or fingers can only get you so far and can also add nasty germs to your face. I, for one, have never been a fan of using your fingers to apply foundation, blush, or whatever else ya'll crazy finger ladies do! However, I do think fingers can come in handy in regards to cream eyeshadows, or maybe even applying dots of concealer to the eyes/primer. There is a time and place for those fingers to get busy but usually not… ;) Anyway, This series will include some of my favorite makeup brushes high end + drugstore! To start, I want to first focus on face brushes for foundation (obvi). What you use to apply foundation is one of the most important pieces to your beauty collection. Finding the best brushes will help you achieve the flawless finish that everyone so badly desires.
Foundation brushes
The Expert Face Brush by Real Techniques. This brush is BEYOND soft! It will blend any liquid or cream foundation like a dream! Many have compared the results of this brush application to a flawless finish such as airbrushing. In my many days of watching professional youtube makeup artists, this brush had popped up MANY times by those artists! A tip- stipple foundation all over your face with the top of the brush. Then, go back and blend it all in.. UGH. SO flawless! You can purchase this brush at Bed Bath and Beyond … Use their coupons, (which never expire!) and you could get an awesome deal on this brush, or their sets. Ulta also sells them. The finish is more of a full coverage. I honestly like to just touch it all the time with my fingers because it is SOO soft and fluffy! |
Duo Fibre Face Brush by Mac. This is a brush that is going to give you lighter coverage. The white bristles are supposed to be the ones to apply the foundation.. The black ones are supposed to be there to "support" the white ones. A lot of people have an issue with this brush shedding, this is because they are not using only the white bristles and are applying to harsh for the brush allowing the black bristles to touch the face. But if used correctly this brush will give you a simple, light coverage… Also great for compact powders. Like I said, not heavy coverage at all. Very sheer. |
Foundation Brush by Lancôme. Many of you have probably seen many foundation brushes that are shaped just like this one and have one laying around somewhere. It definitely has a place in everyones makeup stash, but I just don't seem to use any brush like this one… But if I do, I reach for my Lancôme one rather than any of my other traditional foundation brushes! I like this one most because its tapered, making it easy to get around the eye area, and it is dense enough that getting full coverage is easy to achieve. Plus, this brush is incredibly soft and feels great on the face. This brush is awesome for not leaving streaks like most of its competition on the market. Streaks are so common with this type of foundation brush unless you're a pro, so much so that I try to steer people away from this type of brush. |
Beauty Blender by Beauty Blender. OKAY, so I know this technically isn't a brush… But I could not resist on putting this on here as we talk about whats good for foundation. Really. The BB is not only great at blending foundation, but concealer, contouring, and cream blushes as well. If you don't do anything else. Purchase this baby. She is beautiful, easy to use, and soft. No need to worry about streaks, and is great to use if brushes are scary to you. The finish is natural, and flawless. ANYONE could do it! Worth every bit of the $20 bucks. Dupes just do not work like this baby. Only issue is it stinks if you throw it in your makeup bag & don't let it dry out… Also, any sponge is known for bacteria and soaking up product. The bacteria is gone if you just clean! (LIKE EVERY MAKEUP BRUSH, TOO. Get used to cleaning your cosmetic tools regularly). The soaking up part- yes it will still soak up some product, but the fact you get it soaking wet, and squeeze out some water leaving it damp will help the product stay on surface rather than absorb. Love it. |
I chose the above because they are simple and some of my favorites! I could go on for DAYZZZ talking about different types of foundation brushes/tools. There are so many amazing companies that sell amazing brushes & some that sell horrid ones.. So going on the search for the perfect one could become overwhelming and frustrating. It is all about trial and error and knowing what you want out of the brush. The ones listed are just the tip of an iceberg… At some point maybe i'll share the rest of my favorite foundation brushes! :) What are some of your favorite foundation brushes/tools? xxx Kaylan |
